Very nice addition. There are only a few more things needed in Firefox to make it just as nice to use as Myie2.
One thing about your extension that's a major downfall, unless it's a problem with my configuration, is that it doesn't activate the new tab. If it were able to do that then it would be an even better addition.
Either way, great plugin none the less.

--Brandon,
Please read the screenshot of the options of this extension: surely you can configure it so that new tab is opened in foreground, i.e. in your word, be actived.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 StumbleUpon/1.993 - [3] Submitted by: Tarz on Monday 12th July 2004 at 08:13 -0400

Any idea how to get it to work with the mousegestures extension. As it is, out of my experience i think its either mouse guestures or superdrag. how can you get both to work?

Nice, I thought it would be obsolete if you're using textlink but the graphic feature is pretty funny.
Nevertheless, instead of typing the the graphics folder in the text field, it should be possible to select it from a menu.

I just downloaded the latest FireFox, and was hoping to use this extension to make it more like MyIE, but for some reason the extension just won't install at all...not sure if it's just me boogering it up, though. I'm still not familliar with getting things working in FireFox.

It seems a fine project (I've just downloaded and I'll give it a try as soon as possible), but just a remark. Mozilla for OS/2 already comes with most of the features that SuperDragandGo aims to (via D&D you can create links and local objects from remote locations: images, web pages, zip files and whatever you see on the page; you can select a text and do whatever you want: e.g. drag onto the URL field, onto the GoogleBar,on the Desktop, onto the entry fields in hte Preferences window, and so on).
(Note - Please take this as a polite remark. I always talk with GREAT respect when it comes to talk about other platforms. Just take it as a piece of info about a sometimes neglected platform as OS/2 (and eComStation)).
Thanks to all. And good coding to all you people !!!Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98) - [12] Submitted by: Paul on Thursday 29th July 2004 at 17:02 -0400

I love this extension. The only annoyance I have is that when I drag a linked image, the extension wants to save the image rather than open the link. It would be nice to have a readily available option rather than having to disable image downloading completely.

Overall, I think this is a pretty handy extension that makes tabbed browsing quicker and easier. However, I have a request/suggestion which I think would be more intuitive.
What about bringing up a context menu during the right click & hold event that has the options: Open Link in Current Tab; Open Link in New Tab, Focused; Open Link in New Tab, Unfocused; Open Link in New Window; Cancel (Do not open link). You'd keep the right mouse button held down to make your selection and the appropriate action would take place once the right mouse button is released.
This would, I think, retain the essence of the SuperDragandGo extension while simultaneously adding more flexibility and making it more intuitive.

Great add-on for Firefox. Adds alot of what I missed from Maxthon.
The one addition I would like to see is functionality similar to the "Open links in selection" feature of Maxthon. For those who are not familar with this, if you select a large block of text containing multiple links and the drag and drop that selected text, all of the links contained within are opened in new tabs.

I think this is great, i have begun to use MYIE2 less and less, one thing that i really liked in MYIE2 was the fact that when you drag the link it would open new tabs DIRECTLY to the right of the active tab, and keep pushing down the other tabs, instead of putting the newly opened dragged tab at the very end of all the tabs.
So i guess my request for feature, is have the new tabs that are opened by dragging, open in a new tab directly to the right of the active tab, or at least be a configurable option.
Thanks!

The new update for the .10PR works great and the directional throw is intersting. It would be nice to have the behavior of the directions reversable. I normally throw upwards but would like the tabs to load in the background instead of the foreground.
Appreciate the work, it's a great extention. Suites my browsing style perfectly.

I looked for something I could change that would instruct the extension manager to accept the new version of SDAG but could not figure out how to do it. Can you help here? Thanks

2 odd new behaviors since installing SDAG: (1) when I launch Firefox its window opens behind any open Finder windows, (2) Cmd-T no longer opens a new tab.
BTW, THANKS!!! for getting SDAG up on Ff1.0PR! Missing SDAG was the worst thing about going to Ff1.0PR. It's a wonderful extension.

I am in the process of migrating from MYIE2. Let me tell you I absolutely loved MYIE2. The only reason I am firefox is that there is a tremendous difference in the browsing speed.
As I see every one migrating from MYIE will tell you that dragging is very intutive in MYIE
dragging a link either TEXT or PICTURE will open in a new tab. To download the picture you have to press CTRL.
The newly opened tabs can be loaded next to the current tab, which according to me is more intutive as all the related tabs remain together. If you can provide an option for this behavior all we humble migrants from MYIE will be very gratefull.
nevertheless it is an excellent extention

I've fixed the problem. It's cause by the changing of the ID of the search-bar after 1.0PR. You can edit the source code of the extension, changing the code in line 311 and line 333 from
var searchBar = document.getElementById('search-bar');
to
var searchBar = document.getElementById('searchbar');Then the current selected search engine will be used when you drag some texts, as before.
I'm unable to upload my modified version now. So if someone is interested, please leave me an email.

But I think you couldn't do the fix that simple. This way, the extension will not work on older versions of firefox. Maybe you should do some version checking at first.

doesn't appear to be installable w/ firefox 1.0 rc1. it says it's only compatible with firefox .80 to .10. any way you can make it to be compatible with 1.0? i tried changing the rdf file, but that didn't work.

Thanks for this extension, it's one of my favorites.
I just noticed one quirk: links on the localhost are searched for instead of opened, i.e. is not recognized as a valid URL. Modifying superdrag.js (line 51 in v0.2.4) in the following way fixes the problem:
var DomainName = /(\w+(\-+\w+)*\.)+\w{2,7}|localhost([:\/]|$)/ ;

This was the only reason I made the switch from Maxthon/MyIE2 to Firefox. Now w/ RC1, I can't use this feature, I'm contemplating switching back to Maxthon for the time being.
Great work on the plugin! Hope you come out w/ a RC1 comaptible version soon!

Actually v0.24 works flawless on RC1. Just go to about:config and set app.version back to 0.10.1 (that will even get you all other not yet updated extensions back, as well).

I've just tried it with a clean profile, and it's actually app.extensions.version that you have to set to 0.10 (see
I probably just forgot that I've modified v0.2.4 into thinking that it actually was compatible with Firefox 1.0. My bad.

I really appreciate your extension: it convinced me to switch to firefox! However, there is a bug with the extension: whenever I perform a link drag, the link always gains the focus and I have to click on the empty space on the page to shift the focus so that I can perform another drag on the same page. This bug may seem trivial, but it is very annoying for me, since I use this feature extensively.

From the web site:
1) Drag a link and throw it on your webpage to open it in a new tab.
2) Drag a word and throw it on your webpage to search
3) Drag an image and throw it anywhere to start downloading it.
I want options 2 and 3 but not option 1.
When I drop a url onto the content area I want it
in the same tab that I drop it into. Can you please make make an option to make it
so dropped url's are in a new tab or the same tab? Please?

Could I make a suggestion, please? I think it would be nice to be able to have more sophisticated control over what search engine is used, when a user drags a highlighted word to a blank space. Perhaps when the word is dragged toward a place higher on the screen, a google search is called, but when it is dragged downwards, a Dictionary.com search is used. Better still, Ebay to the left, and Wikipedia to the right. Naturally, the user would have power to set their four favorite search engines to each direction.
I hope this would not be difficult to implement. Imagine being able to search for multiple words/phrases, in different search engines, and bring up each result in its own tab, without taking away focus from the original page.
I know that there are people out there who would appreciate this kind of flexibility.

Morphis, What I am saying is that after I made the drag, which worked okay, I always have to click on the blank space on the page to get rid of the focus on the link I have jsut dragged before I can drag another link and that's kind of annoying. Also, it seems superdragandgo is not as sensitive as the superdraganddrop function on Maxthon.

Sorry, Morphis.
I just realized that the drag is supposed to change the focus. However, it does not work all the time, esp. when a background page is rendering. So I guess the occasional sluggishness is more of a bug with threading in Firefox. I don't think you have upadated the version on the Mozdev site. I still can't install it off that site for v 1.0 but I can on your home page ( You will have to do that.
Thanks for the plug in though. It helped me switch from Maxthon and I can't live without it.

If you JUST upgraded to the new 1.0 (official release), you will need to edit the file first, which is pretty easy (as in comment #35) download the extension from this page (on the installation link above). Change the superdrag extension to .zip, unzip it, edit the .rdf file with notepad and one of the last lines says "max version" - change that to 1.0. Then zip the files back up & rename back to .xpi. Then just open with firefox. Sorry to be so mundane.

Apparently my example URL got chopped. This sentence should read
I have some intranet links in my Bookmarks Toolbar folder that are h|t|t|p://intranet/whatever (minus the |)
If this doesn't show up, the idea is that the URL does not start with www.

0.2.4 is compatible with Firefox 1.0 (I am using it now)
Click the installation link above and then on version 0.2.4You may have to add superdragandgo.mozdev.org to the list of sites allowed to install software under Tools -> Options -> Web Features -> Allow website to install software -> Allowed sites.
If you are using Firefox 1.0, a yellow bar should pop up, click on edit options and add the URL.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0 - [128] Submitted by: looneyjim on Friday 3rd December 2004 at 15:29 -0500

So, it's still unclear from postings on this forum and from the mozdev webpages [ whether or not the latest version of superdragandgo [0.2.4]is really and safely compatible with FF1.0. Some anecdotal evidence from postings on this page suggest that it is, but something more authoritative would be great. Can one of the program developers or someone from Mozdev please clarify this?
(Also, what about 0.2.4 d1?)
Thanks. Superdragandgo is super!!

I love this extension and used it all the time with 1.0PR. I just upgraded to 1.0 and it no longer works!! Oh no! I've become dependent on it - just flick links off to the side and they open up in new tabs in the background. I can select multiple links off the main page and browse them at leisure. Very convenient!

Finally, after searching through dozens of extensions, I have the capability that I want. It was driving me crazy that I had to select a new tab that loaded in the background that I wanted to see right away. I was to the point that I've started to learn js and xul programming with the intent of writing my own extensions. Anyway, thank you very, very much for this one, I will use it constantly.

I wish I could leave a comment and rate this on the Firefox site - but I'm always denied permission.
Here is my latest that I tried to post:
I love this extension and use it all the time. I had an older version that I had used with Firefox PR1.0 for several months. Using it became part of my regular browsing - just flick links off to the side and they open up in a new tab. When I updated to 1.0 Super DragAndGo didn't work! Oh No! I felt lost without it! Fortunately the lastest version works with Firefox 1.0 otherwise I would have gone back to the PR version.
It makes browsing very easy - links on any web page can be quickly selected and allowed to open in the background for leisurely browsing. One of the best!

I just tried the plugin and it's nice!
One request is that if I select more than one link, when I drag it, it should open each link in a separate tag. That would be very useful!
Sometimes, I come upon a list of links and I want to checkout each one. It would be so easy if I could highlight the links and then drag them once instead of draggin each one separately.
Thanks for the plugin!

I'm a recent Maxthon to Firefox switcher, and I'm not looking back. Maxthon has this feature included. The Super drag and go extension almost does just a good job except this:
* Sometimes when I drag a link it doesn't load in the foreground - Seams to be quite random..?
* If I mark a text in a link and drag and drop the marked text it still follows the link, I'd like(and this is how Maxthon does it) to search for the marked text instead)

I love this extension, it's absolutely essential, it almost makes me not to miss Maxthon at all.
It works ok except for one thing, the newly created tabs do not always open in foreground ("Load tab for links and text-links in foreground" is checked). I've tried disabling the Tab Browser Preferences extension just to see if there was any incompatibility between them but it didn't make any difference.
I think this started to happen when I updated to Firefox 1.0.2, I'm not sure, but I do know that some time ago it didn't have this problem.
And one suggestion, a "Create new tabs next to the currently active tag" option is really needed! (once again, like Maxthon does).

Found that "Create new tab next to the currently active tab" that I suggested, it's a tablib option:
tablib.tabs_open_relative = true
Anyway it would be nice to include it in SuperDragAndGo.

It works just great for me. It makes browsing with my Tablet PC just really easy.
I've got two suggestions though,
- if you drag and drop text, check if the tld is correct. For example i can't search for "example.dll" via drag and drop as the extension thinks its a webpage.
- activate "Save Target as..." by pressing eg the COntrol key while dragging the a link arround. Or Shift key what you like...Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-DE; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4 - [164] Submitted by: robs on Sunday 12th June 2005 at 17:20 -0400

hi
I'd like to be able to drag MP3 links and download them, not have them open in a new tab. You could add functionality for mp3's and other sorts of file types, like wmv, quicktime, etc and choose how you want them all to open when you drag the link. You could have a checklist for all the different filetypes in the options/settings menu.
Otherwise, good work!

One odd thing though. I always open my tabs in the background. However the first superdrag link always opens in the foreground (with focus). Subsequent links open in the background. This is consistent every time I use superdragngo. FYI I also have tabbrowser preferences extension loaded.

Really nice. I'd really like to be able to cancel a drag, though. For example, I might start dragging a link whilst still reading it, then decide I don't want to read the article linked to, so I want a way to cancel the drag and not make the link open. I've found the way I'd expect to do this is to put the cursor on top of where I started dragging from (i.e., the link), and release the mouse button.

I'm experiencing inconsistent behavior: I've set the settings to uncheck both "load in foreground" options. However, _some_ links load in the background...and others in the foreground. There doesn't seem to be any pattern, even on the same webpage or in the same article, some links open foreground, other background.
Can anyone replicate this behavior...and suggest a solution? (I have uninstalled/reinstalled the extension.)

All I get is error message "The download folder does not exist". Even if I set download directory to /home/take.

Nice extension, but I noticed that SuperDragAndGo sends a request without a referer header when it drag-and-go a link. I don't know whether it's good or bad, its a different behavior that "Open link in a new tab" does, and some websites forbid a request without a referer header. So, I modified SuperDragAndGO v0.2.4 as follows, and it works.
(in the 115th line of chrome/superdrag.jar!/content/superdrag.js)
- var newTab = getBrowser().addTab(uri);
+ var newTab = getBrowser().addTab(uri, getWebNavigation().currentURI);Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; ja-JP; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050919 Firefox/1.0.7 - [183] Submitted by: Anthony2816 on Thursday 29th September 2005 at 12:21 -0400

its functional with ff 1.5b1, you just have to change the maxversion.
1)download .xpi to computer
2)Rclick> open archive (i use 7-zip)
3)open install.rdf
4)find max version (I think it was 1.0+, change to something like 1.5)
5)it should update teh archive w/o you unpacking it from your zip software.
6)in ff file>open open file. open the xpiMozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4 - [185] Submitted by: steve on Wednesday 5th October 2005 at 03:14 -0400

Hello out there.
Firefox hung (very rare) at system exit (WinXP Pro, Dell laptop), and ever since SuperDragandGo won’t give a download dialogue box.
Previously, I would drag an image and that would spur a download dialogue box where I could choose a filename for the image and then hit enter to complete. Now, on drag, the image just writes straight to the download folder. Right-click/save-as still works normally, with a confirmation dialogue. Download manager still normal.
I checked all the FF options, re-installed the extension and also the FF program, but no luck.
Any suggestions?

Super DragAndGo is a nice extension. I love it.
Well, I'm thinkig if there's any possibility to develop a new fuction, that I can customize the direction to open the tab in foreground or background.
Currently if I drag a link upward, it will open a tab in foreground, while drag downward opens in background. I mean, it's better if I can customize this option.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; zh-CN; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051025 Firefox/1.5 - [193] Submitted by: GrenDup on Monday 21st November 2005 at 06:58 -0500

Arrgh. Why can't we show links???
Okay, here's one way to fix it:
Enable Super DragAndGo in Firefox 1.5 (Do not enter any quote marks) 1. In the address field type, "about:config" 2. Right-click on the list, select New > String 3. Type "app.extensions.version" in the preference box. 4. Then, type "1.0" as the value for app.extensions.version. 5. Restart Firefox 1.5, then go to Tools > Extensions and right click on Super DragAndGo select Enable 6. Restart Firefox 1.5 again to active the extensions. That's all.

Here's another method to fix it for FF 1.5...this is the method I used:
1. Right click the link for the file and save to the desktop (dont install)
2. Open the file and use winzip or winrar or stuffit or some other compression program to view all the files.
3. find "install.rdf" within these files using the compression program, and extract this file only
4. view the install.rdf file with a text editor like wordpad or notepad
5. Change the term "1.0" to "1.6" in the text file and save it
6. Go back to your compression program like winrar, click on the original superdragandgo....xpi file and add the new install.rdf file to REPLACE the old one
7. Now open firefox, and physically drag the new superdragandgo xpi file anywhere on the browser and it will install!
8. It is so easy, believe me, and you're done in less than 1 minute.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 - [204] Submitted by: Anthony2816 on Monday 5th December 2005 at 00:42 -0500

It's possible you didn't make the correct alteration in the first method, as it worked for me. However, the second method looks to me like it will adjust FF for all outdated extensions, not just this one, by making them all think that the version number is only 1.0 instead of 1.5, so it's probably a superior method.

Toffa: I just discovered a problem with the about:config method you used. I tried it on my FF 1.5 installation, and it *prevented* the extension ReloadEvery 1.5 from installing. I opened the ReloadEvery install.rdf file and saw this code:
1.4.1
1.5.0.*Since that edit to about:config makes FF report a version 1.0 to extensions, the current version of ReloadEvery wouldn't load.
The about:config edit works on Super DragandGo because its install.rdf file has these lines:
0.8
1.0Thus, unlike ReloadEvery, it's happy when it's told that it's under FF 1.0.
It's therefore better to alter Super DragandGo's install.rdf file so that it reads:
0.8
1.5...rather than make that about.config edit.

Arggh, screwed by the html filter again! Okay, so I can't show you the lines of code. Suffice to say that the install.rdf have code lines that give a minimum and maximum version of FF under which they'll run. Edit these lines to include version 1.5, and the extension will attempt to install and run.

I notice that SuperDragandGo when saving images will save it both to the target folder as well as:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp"However, when Right-Clicking on an image to save it through the Right-Click menu, it does not do this second copy to the above Temp folder.
I only noticed it since the CCleaner utility detected these images in there.
I don't know if this is a bug, feature, or a Windows (2000) issue beyond the control of SuperDragandGo, but I would call that a privacy problem since using Firefox's 'clear cache' feature does not clear that Temp folder.

There is a beta version which enables one to open a link in the background or foreground by dragging downwards or upwards. You can find it if you click the first link under versions table on the main page of project. You still have to edit install.rdf as described above. I haven't tried it, I hope it works fine.

if you want it to work for Firefox 1.5.0.1,
just download the xpi-file and open it with for example WinZip... while in winzip, view the install.rdf with Notepad or any other text-editor... find the line that says: 100.0+
and replace that by: 1.5+... save the file and return to your winzip-session. Winzip will ask you if you want to update the archive with this file. Click yes!then go to firefox and in the menu, select File and then Open File... browse to the xpi-file, double click, install it and restart firefox et voilà!
works like a charm :)

Superdragandgo was the single most useful extension I ever used in Mozilla Firefox... but I updated Firefox recently and was very sorry to find it no longer works. So sorry, that now I wish I hadn't updated. I hope you update your extension to be compatible with newer versions.

Install Nightly Tester Tools. This ext. forces outdated extensions to work under non supported versions of FF. Install this and a button to "Make all Compatible" appears on the Extension window. Click it and should work after restarting FF. Link:

i've been missing SD&G for about a month now, which was making me consider going back to Firefox 1.0.7

===THIS EXTENSION NEEDS UPDATING!===
This is simple, yet really handy to use. I had it installed last year and I find it indispensable for my browsing.
But...
Can you please update this extension to work with the latest version of Firefox? It has been removed from the Firefox extensions site. It will not install because it is incompatible with Firefox 1.5.0.1

It will work with any version before 2.0a1. Just go into the install.rdf file and change the max version to the version you are trying to run. Is anyone planning on taking this over? I am running Bon Echo, and it does not work on that. I do not know enough to code it myself.

I've been missing this extension for ages, it's definitely my favourite. I updated to 1.5.0.4 ten minutes ago, and it tells me that SDAG still isn't compatible. This is wrong!
I tried installing it then, it installs, and it works. I don't know how or why, but that just made my day.
You might want to point out that it will work for the current version of firefox.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 - [256] Submitted by: guigui357 on Saturday 17th June 2006 at 08:37 -0400

to install it under firefox 1.5.x :
1. download the .xpi
2. rename it in .zip and extract it
3. edit the file install.rdf with a text editor
4. replace the line 100.0+ by 2.0 for example
5. rezip the files. rename the .zip in .xpi. Drag and drop the .xpi file in firefox to install it. It works perfectly well and doesn't complain about compatibility issues anymore. That's definitely, IMHO, one of the most useful extensions available. Why isn't it simply maintained (even simply by updating the install.rdf file in the official release), not for people to have to use 'tricky' workarounds ?
Regards.

I love this extension. Thank you so much!! However, right now I'm using Firefox/2.0.0.1 on Vista (RTM) and SuperDragandGo 0.2.6 and having the following problem: If I remove my search bar from my toolbar, nothing happens when I throw to search terms. If I replace my search bar in the tool bar (Google selected), throwing to search will open a new blank tab. Throwing URLs still works either way. I've tried disabling all of my other extensions. I still have the problem.

Word dragging does not work, nor does the up/down distinction in dragging. The only way to change behaviour is from the Options. I think the latter is the bigger of the two bugs, as you can always drag the word to the search field in the toolbar.
Otherwise, an exceptionally instant love, as extensions go. Thanks.

Since it seems like the "drag a word" problem has not been fixed in at least four months, I fixed it myself.
Mind that it's a quick hack - I didn't want to spend ages debugging the extension, I just made it work for me. Thus it's hard-coded to use google.com and doesn't care if the search bar is hidden or not.
1. Download
2. Tools > Add-ons, Install, select the file
3. Restart Firefox
4. Extension should now be listed as Super DragAndGo 0.2.6f (for "fixed") and dragging text to search should workExcept for the version number, all I changed was this (unidiff):

Very interested in a fix for FF3. This extension works better than what FF3 has. FF3 only does links and you have to drag to the tab bar.
I tried extending the versioning in the Super jar, but it doesn't quite work. I figured eventually I would have to look at it, but will take any "path of least resistance" :)
